March 14, 1916 - October 6, 1944

PFC Clarence E.H. Roseland Jr., 28, U.S. Army, born March 14, 1916, was killed in action on
October 6, 1944. Roseland was a Machine Gunner with 3rd Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment in WWII. During the liberation of Grandvillers, an intense battle with Axis forces errupted. As his unit moved to a defendible position, he stayed behind and provided cover until he was hit by enemy fire. Roseland's actions allowed his company to repel the German advance and capture the town. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and the Distinguished Service Cross. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
