PFC Charlie E. Allen, 21, U.S. Army, born in Tennessee July 5, 1930, was killed in action on October 4, 1951. Allen served with 3rd Infantry Division in the Korean War. His unit was holding a strategic position when they came under fire. While trying to take out the enemy guns, they were pinned down. Allen left cover to help a wounded man when a grenade fell next to them. He leapt forward and absorbed the deadly shrapnel to save his friend. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and the Distinguished Service Cross. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
