In Memory OfPFC Arthur J. Schieffer

PFC Arthur J. Schieffer, 23, U.S. Army, born January 2, 1922, drowned on December 17, 1945. In WWII, Schieffer served with 204th General Hospital in Guam. There, he helped operate a large medical facility that treated an enormous number of wounded servicemembers. After the war, Schieffer remained in Guam with the occupation force. One day, as he was riding in a raft in Tumon Bay, his boat sprang a leak and sank. Initially listed as MIA, Schieffer's remains were recovered, and he was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.
