PFC Albert T. Hayes, 25, U.S. Army, born in Pennsylvania January 26, 1919, was declared Missing in Action on December 25, 1944. Hayes served with 262nd Infantry Regiment, 66th Infantry Division in WWII. During the Battle of the Bulge, his unit boarded the SS Léopoldville to help the Allied forces advance. While crossing the English Channel, the vessel was sunk by the German submarine "U-486." Of the 2,235 men who went into the water, Hayes and 762 others were KIA or declared MIA.
