LT Gene R. Gollahon, 26, U.S. Navy, born November 7, 1938, was killed in action on August 13, 1965. In the Vietnam War, Gollahon served as an F-8D Crusader Pilot with Fighter Squadron 111 aboard the USS Midway (CV-41). While on a low-level recon mission to locate NVA surface-to-air missile sites near Nam Ðịnh, his squadron encountered heavy anti-aircraft fire. Gollahon's jet was hit by enemy flack and crashed. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Fair winds and following seas, Airman! Til Valhalla, Brother!
