LCpl John A. Guldan, 20, U.S.M.C., born in Illinois May 23, 1950, was killed in action on August 3, 1970. Guldan served as a Rifleman with 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division and deployed to fight in the Vietnam War. While conducting combat operations in NVA and Vietcong-held territory in Quang Nam province, Guldan passed away when he was struck by shrapnel from an enemy booby trap. For his service, he was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and has a street named in his honor in Chicago. Semper Fi, Marine! Til Valhalla, Brother!
