LCpl Joe M. Jackson, 22, U.S.M.C., born in Washington December 26, 1988, was killed in action on April 24, 2011. Jackson, a 4th generation Marine, served as a Rifleman with 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While conducting a dismounted patrol through Sangin, a city known for harboring Taliban Insurgents, he was struck by a roadside bomb. Jackson passed away in a medical center shortly after.
