In Memory Of

LCpl Benjamin R. Carman, 20, U.S.M.C., born in Iowa February 9, 1984, was killed in action on April 6, 2004. Carman was a Machine Gunner with 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, and deployed to Iraq. While on patrol, he heard a message about U.S. snipers whose position was overrun and volunteered to take his quick response team and help. During the battle, Carman passed away when he was hit by enemy fire while in hand-to-hand combat with insurgents. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and has a highway named in his honor.
