In Memory OfK9 Bear
K9 Bear, Richland County Sheriff's Office (RCSO), passed away on March 25, 1989. Bear was a 145-pound rottweiler with RCSO who would become the stuff of legends. While on patrol, her handler, Deputy Ed Ernsberger, was shot while attempting to arrest an escaped convict. She quickly charged at the inmate and was shot three times by bullets meant for her partner, but continued to protect Ernsberger until backup arrived. Bear survived her injuries and is remembered as one of the bravest members in her agency's history. Rest easy; We have the watch now! Til Valhalla, Sister!
