In Memory OfHM3 Donald J. Rion

June 19, 1942 - December 10, 1966

HM3 Donald J. Rion, 24, U.S. Navy, born June 19, 1942, was killed in action on December 10, 1966. Rion was a Hospital Corpsman with 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment in Vietnam. While on patrol in Quảng Trị, miscommunications resulted in a friendly jet bombing their position. In the blast, 17 men were killed, and he lost his legs. Rion quickly applied tourniquets to himself and crawled to aid over a dozen wounded men until succumbing to his injuries. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and the Silver Star. Fair winds and following seas, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
