In Memory OfFire Chief James R. McDermott

Fire Chief James R. McDermott, 50, Newberry Fire Department, born August 03, 1972, lost his long battle with PTSD on June 23, 2023. A retired career firefighter who gave more than 25 years to fire and EMS, McDermott rose to lead the Newberry Fire Department as its Chief, driven by a deep love of helping people. He loved hiking, camping, and exploring the outdoors with his family, but carried the unseen weight of the job long after the calls fell silent. He is survived by his wife, Angel, their three children, and the community he served. Rest easy; We have the watch now! Til Valhalla, Brother!
