FF & EMT-P Steven R. Diehl, 52, South Elgin Fire Protection District, born in Illinois April 23, 1971, passed away from ALS on November 18, 2023. For 32 years, Diehl served South Elgin in as many ways as he possibly could. He was a Firefighter, Paramedic, Hazmat Team Leader, and a Rescue Diver Team Leader. Diehl was a dedicated civil servant who put everything on the line to protect the people of the community he loved so dearly. For his service, he earned the "Firefighter Excellence Award" in 2021.
