ENS Patrick J. Smid, 88, U.S. Navy, born February 10, 1924, passed away on July 3, 2012. In WWII, Smid was a Combat Information Center Officer and Fighter Direct aboard the USS Ozbourn (DD-846). There, he was in charge of air defense and coordinating tactical operations against enemy aircraft. Smid enjoyed writing, fishing, and some good Fighting Irish basketball. Above all, he loved trips to Marble, Colorado, where, for over 30 years, the Smids got together for tremendous family reunions. Fair winds and following seas, Shipmate! Til Valhalla, Brother!
