Deputy Sheriff & SPC Wayne J. Koester, 33, Lake County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), Florida Army National Guard (FANG), born November 29, 1971, died in the line of duty on February 9, 2005. After eight years with Umatilla P.D., Koester joined the LCSO. There, he quickly became known for his dedication to his community. Koester was also in the FANG and helped with hurricane relief efforts with 1st Battalion, 265th Air Defense Artillery Regiment. For his service, he was named National Deputy Sheriff of the Year.
