CPT Kimberly N. Hampton, 27, U.S. Army, born in South Carolina August 18, 1976, was killed in action on January 2, 2004. Hampton was a Helicopter Pilot with 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, and deployed for Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. While flying support for our troops in Fallujah, her Kiowa Warrior was hit by enemy fire and crashed. She is the first female pilot to be shot down and killed in U.S. history. For her service, she earned a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Sister!
