CPL Robert W. Grubbs, 50, U.S. Navy and Pittsylvania Co. Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), born December 27, 1970, lost the battle within on February 24, 2021. He served 20 years in the US Navy as a Master-at-Arms and Naval Criminal Investigator, including two tours at Guantanamo Bay, before joining the PCSO. Known as “Grubby,” he was a selfless deputy, once locating a missing elderly woman alive in a ravine after five days. He also rescued a man from a vehicle during Tropical Storm Michael, wading into waist-deep water. His infectious smile and dedication left a profound impact on his community.
