In Memory OfCPL Michael E. Thompson

May 5, 1985 - September 17, 2008

CPL Michael E. Thompson, 23, OK Army National Guard, born May 5, 1985, was killed in action on September 17, 2008. After his first deployment with the 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, Thompson volunteered for a second deployment to Iraq as a CH-47 Door Gunner with the 2nd Battalion, 149th Aviation Regiment. While transporting troops and supplies to Balad Air Base, he passed away when his Chinook helicopter crashed due to a catastrophic mechanical failure. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star, and a highway now bears his name in his honor. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
