In Memory OfCPL James E. Viars

CPL James E. Viars, 19, U.S. Army, born August 18, 1931, was killed in action on November 27, 1950. Viars was with 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division in the Korean War. During the Battle of Taejon, his unit was holding a position on the Kum River when enemy forces overran them. In the chaos, Viars was captured and forced to walk the "Tiger Death March" to a POW camp in Hanjang-ni. There he passed away weeks later from the horrible conditions. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and the POW Medal. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
