CPL Eugene B. Crees, 25, Iowa Army National Guard, born in Iowa July 19, 1919, was killed in action on September 11, 1944. Crees served with 113th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized) in WWII. During a mission in Belgium, he volunteered to clear a house where enemy troops were held up. Crees entered the building and started shooting. He died in the firefight, but any surviving Germans ran out of the house and were taken down by the Crees' unit. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
