Chief of Police Steven B. Newkirk, 52, San Saba Police Dept., born July 9, 1972, passed away from health complications on April 11, 2025. Newkirk began his career at the Walls Unit, honing skills before joining Lewisville PD for 21 years, then becoming Chief of Police for San Saba PD, a role the Sheriff's Office called his "dream job." Newkirk was a man built around people, raising his kids by the Golden Rule, playing guitar, and skilled at metalworking, always tinkering and creating. He is survived by his wife Kristy, five children, and five grandsons. Rest easy. We have the watch. Til Valhalla, Brother!
