February 11, 1929 - November 25, 1967
CDR William H. Searfus, 38, U.S. Navy, born February 11, 1929, died in a non-combat incident on November 25, 1967. In Vietnam, Searfus was an A-4 Pilot with Attack Squadron 155. There, he became a legend for fearlessly completing missions through some of the most heavily defended airspace in the war. While taxying aboard the USS Coral Sea (CVA-43), Searfus passed away when his jet was blown overboard by the exhaust of an F-4. For his service, he earned the Silver Star and eight Distinguished Flying Crosses. Fair winds and following seas, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
