Capt John N. Flanigan, 35, U.S.M.C., born in Florida August 7, 1934, was declared MIA on August 19, 1969. Flanigan was an Electronic Warfare Officer with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 542, Marine Air Group 11, 1st Marine Air Wing in Vietnam. While on an escort mission, his F-4 Phantom got separated from their recon aircraft and vanished. Flanigan was thought to be missing forever, but in 1997, his body was identified via DNA and gave closure to his family. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
