In Memory OfC4C Thomas M. Surdyke

C4C Thomas M. Surdyke, 18, U.S. Military Academy, born in South Dakota July 4,
1997, passed away on June 28, 2016. Surdyke enrolled at West Point “to serve for
those who are unable to do so for themselves.” He was a hard-working Cadet and
earned Dean's List honors every semester. While on break, Surdyke saw a man
caught in a riptide and swam to help. Though he saved the stranger, Surdyke lost his
life in the process. His final gift to the world was through organ donation. For his
heroism, he earned the Soldier’s Medal. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
