AOM1 Anthony Di Petta, 24, U.S. Navy, born in Italy June 3, 1920, was killed in action on September 10, 1944. In WWII, Di Petta was an Aviation Ordnanceman with Navy Torpedo Squadron 20. While conducting a pre-invasion strike against Japanese forces, his TBM-1 Avenger was hit by enemy flack and crashed into the Pacific. Di Petta was listed as MIA until 2021, when "Project Recover" raised the wreckage from the ocean floor and identified his remains via DNA. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart.
