In Memory Of

AN David W. Cornell, 21, U.S. Navy, born in West Virginia October 16, 1966, passed away in a non-combat incident on January 31, 1988. Cornell was an Airman aboard the USS Coral Sea (CV-43). There, he assisted in maintaining various aircraft equipment on the ship. During a storm, Cornell saw a bomb rack was not tied down and could fall at any moment, spilling ordnance all over the hangar, so he ran to strap it down. As he was securing it, a wave hit the ship and subsequently knocked the rack on top of him. Fair winds and following seas, Shipmate! Til Valhalla, Brother!
