November 4, 1917 - March 11, 1944

2LT Donald W. Sheppick, 26, U.S. Army Air Forces, born November 4, 1917, was Killed in Action (KIA) on March 11, 1944. A navigator with the 320th Bombardment Squadron, Sheppick flew aboard the B-24 Liberator "Heaven Can Wait." On a bombing run over Hansa Bay, his bomber was hit by enemy fire and went down with all 11 crew. He left behind his wife, Mary, pregnant with the son he would never meet. Missing for 81 years, Sheppick was recovered from the Pacific and finally brought home to Pennsylvania. For his service, he earned the Air Medal and Purple Heart. Fly High, Hero!
