1ST LT Herbert G. Tennyson, 24, U.S. Army Air Forces, born July 25, 1919, was killed in action on March 11, 1944. A B-24 Liberator pilot, he flew with the 320th Bombardment Squadron, 90th Bombardment Group. On a bombing run over Hansa Bay, his bomber "Heaven Can Wait" was hit and went down with all aboard. A Wichita University student, he had married Jean just months before shipping overseas. Missing for 81 years, Tennyson was recovered from the deep Pacific and finally laid to rest in Wichita; he earned the Air Medal and Purple Heart. Fly High, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
