1LT Robert S. Byrnes, 23, U.S. Army, born December 16, 1944, Killed in Action (KIA) on February 9, 1968. Byrnes served as a Forward Observer with Battery A, 3rd Battalion, 82nd Artillery, 196th Light Infantry Brigade. He was deployed to Vietnam, where he was killed in a firefight during the Tet Offensive. Byrnes was an artist who excelled in track, water polo, swimming, water skiing, archery, and horseback riding. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. Rest easy, Soldier! Til Valhalla, Brother!
