1LT Khairom K. H. Rummells, 23, U.S. Army, born October 28, 1921, was killed in action on January 16, 1945. Rummells was with 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division in WWII. During the Battle of the Bulge, his unit was sent to secure the OndenvalâIveldingen Pass and clear the way for Allied forces. While assaulting an enemy position, Rummells was fatally wounded by enemy fire. Though he fell, his efforts helped force German defenders north and open a critical path to St. Vith. For his service, he earned two Purple Hearts. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
