1LT Elwin J. McFadden, 23, U.S. Army Air Corps, born in Oregon January 13, 1921, was killed in action on May 29, 1944. McFadden served as a B-26 Pilot with 558th Bomber Squadron, 387th Bomber Group (Medium) in WWII. While on a mission to bomb a railroad bridge north of Paris, he encountered heavy enemy flak. McFadden was just 20 seconds away from the target when his B-26's wings were shot off, sending the bomber in a steep dive and crash. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Fly high, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
