PFC Jack C. Bogard, 21, U.S.M.C., born December 16, 1946, was killed in action on February 5, 1968. Bogard was a Rifleman with 2nd Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam. While his unit was holding a defensive position atop hill 861A. In the dead of night, hundreds of NVA troops unleashed an avalanche of grenades, mortars, and bullets upon the Marines. Bogard's unit won the day, but he was killed by enemy fire while carrying a wounded man to safety. For his service, he earned a Purple Heart. Semper Fi, Marine! Til Valhalla, Brother.
