ENS John E. Heinen, 97, U.S. Navy, born in Wisconsin March 15, 1922, passed away on January 8, 2020. Heinen had a diverse Naval career, serving as a Navigation Officer (Aviation), a Radio Operator (Aviation), and a Gunnery (Aerial). In WWII, he flew up and down the Eastern Seaboard, searching for German submarines. Heinen then became an Air Bombers Training Unit Instructor at Banana River Naval Air Station and flew search and rescue missions over the Bermuda Triangle, looking for missing planes.
